The Marana is a budget ferry built to operate in a range of conditions. Servicing the tourist town of Port Arthur from Hobart, the vessel is required to cross the mouth of the Derwent River which is directly exposed to the waters of the Southern Ocean.
The vessel has a duel Survey allowing it to operate with 230 passengers in 1E survey and 100 passengers in 1C.
Powered by a pair of Caterpillar 3406E six cylinder main engines the vessel can maintain speeds of 24 knots with a full load of passengers.
The interior design features hard wearing soft furnishings, linings and floorcoverings resulting in significantly reduced maintenance time and costs. While the use of the inline six cylinder main engines allows easy access around the engine rooms for easy maintenance.
